Coup: Fayose Applauds Gabonese Military Amid Global Condemnation

Former governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has hailed the Gabonese soldiers who overthrew President Ali Bongo on Wednesday in a palace coup and expressed satisfaction with the state of affairs in the Central African nation.
In an interview on Channels Television’s programme – Hard Copy on Friday, the former governor of Ekiti stated that while he opposes military participation in politics, the recent wave of coups throughout the continent are the outcome of the sit-tight syndrome.

According to him, “I am very happy with what happened in Gabon, I don’t like military incursions in politics.”
Hours after being proclaimed the winner of the elections on Saturday, the military men overthrew Ali Bongo, who has been in power for 14 years, on Wednesday.
Fayose, however, does not anticipate this happening in Nigeria despite the challenges it has faced in achieving democracy.
