“The elections will take place on March 18. I enjoin everyone to vote for candidates of their choice,’’ CAN chairman in the state, Most Rev. Bulus Yohanna, said in the statement.
He added that after due consultation with the national body, the state chapter decided that members must consider character, competence, capacity and policies of candidates before deciding on who to vote.
“The candidate must be God-fearing, honest and respectful of the rule of law, justice and fairness for all.
“He or she must have respect for religious and ethnic diversity,’’ the chairman said in the statement.
The candidates, he continued, must be kind, responsible, and lead a respectable lifestyle; they cannot be cults, religious zealots, involved in illegal narcotics, or in relationships with bandits and thugs.
Also, he urged voters to take into account candidates’ prior work histories and how well they performed in previous roles.
The chairman emphasized that the ideal candidates must be those who can ensure internal security, religious neutrality, enforcement of fundamental rights, and fairness in appointment.
Yohanna also emphasized the need of electing politicians who will guarantee the public access to high-quality healthcare and education, and she urged Christians to fast and pray for the election’s success.
