Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), asserted that Nigerians would have supported Peter Obi in the election on February 25, 2023, if he had been a better candidate for the Labour Party (LP).

Wednesday’s Politics Today episode on Channels Television featured Wike exclusively.

In the hotly contested election, the former governor of Rivers State declared that he would be backing the All Progressives Congress’ (APC) presidential candidate over his own party’s nominee, former vice president Atiku Abubakar.

Wike responded that he no longer talks about presidential candidates when asked if Obi would have managed the major problems facing the Nigerian economy better than Tinubu if he had been elected.

The FCT minister stated, “I don’t want to debate social media issue. “I no longer talk about presidential candidates; instead, I talk about the economy, the President, and what he can offer.”

“If he (Obi) would have been better, Nigerians would have voted for him.”

Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, came third in the election won by APC’s Tinubu. The LP candidate and his PDP counterpart are in court to challenge the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declaring Tinubu as winner of the poll.
