JUSTIN: DSS Arrests Suspended CBN Gov

Godwin Emefiele, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has been arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) late on Friday, shortly after President Bola Tinubu had suspended him indefinitely.

Emefiele’s suspension by President Tinubu was not unexpected by many because the embattled CBN governor has received harsh criticism for allegedly mismanaging the country’s monetary policies.

His suspension was announced in a statement that stated the decision was made in light of “ongoing investigation of his office and the planned reforms in the financial sector of the economy.”

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation’s Director of Information, Willie Bassey, stated that Emefiele’s suspension took effect right away.

Following the suspension, the DSS moved quickly to arrest Emefiele, purportedly to question him.

Prior to President Tinubu’s inauguration, the DSS made vain attempts to apprehend Emefiele on charges of allegedly supporting terrorist activities.
