Commercial motorcycle riders (Okada riders) in southern Kaduna celebrated greatly when Mr. Donatus Mathew, a colleague and the Labour Party’s (LP) candidate for the House of Representatives, was proclaimed the victor of the election for the Kaura Federal constituency of Kaduna State.
Hon. Giden Gwani, a four-term representative and the minority chief whip in the House of Representatives, was defeated by Mathew.
The member-elect, Mr. Donatus Mathew, thanked the electorates for the confidence reposed in him to represent them and requested assistance and collaboration from the populace while praising his former colleagues amid hundreds of well wishers after he was proclaimed the winner.
Earlier, Professor Elijah Ella, the returning officer, reported that Mathew received 10,508 votes overall to defeat Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) incumbent member and candidate Hon. Gideon Lucas Gwani, who received 10,297 votes.
Sources claim that Mathew served as a councilor and commercial motorcycle rider in Southern Kaduna.
